Visiting the Library
The Field Museum is located on Chicago's Museum Campus, at 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, just south of Roosevelt Rd.
The Main Library is loacted in a non-public area on the Field Museum's third floor. The public may visit the Library Reading Room between 11 a.m.and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday by contacting the Protection Services Officer at any Museum entrance. Visitors are strongly encouraged to contact the Reference Librarian via email (harlow@fieldmuseum.org) or 312.665-7887 prior to visiting the library as the Reading Room is occasionally used during the day for special events and meetings. Library Services
The Librarys collections are available for public use on a non-circulating reference basis only. Borrowing privileges are reserved for Museum staff and associates.
Inter-Library Loan
Interlibrary Loan facilitates the lending and borrowing of content from books, journals and other media between institutions of higher learning, museums and research facilities worldwide.
Reading Room Event Booking
The Library Reading Room is an attractive and comfortable space that is regularly the scene of after-hours events that have included meetings, seminars, dinners, and even a wedding. Tours in the adjacent Mary W. Runnells Rare Book Room may be scheduled as part of an event. For more information on how to book an event in the Reading Room, please contact the Special Events office.
