The Field Museum holds one of the largest, most systematic, and most comprehensive collections of specimens from Early Dynastic Mesopotamia in the United States. Excavated by a joint expedition from Oxford University and The Field Museum at the former capital of Kish, the Iraq collection is especially strong in everyday artifacts of ceramic and bronze, flaked stone tools, and remains of domesticated animals.
