From the City, north of the Museum
- Take Lake Shore Drive (US-41) south past Grant Park. Continue south until the 18th street exit.
- Turn left on 18th street and continue as it bends left, becoming Museum Campus Drive. Entrance to the parking garage will be on your left on Museum Campus Drive.
From the City, south of the Museum
- Take Lake Shore Drive (US-41) north.
- Continue on Lake Shore Drive until the 18th street exit.
- Turn right on 18th street and continue as it bends left, becoming Museum Campus Drive. Entrance to the parking garage will be on your left on Museum Campus Drive.
From the City, west of the Museum and the Western Suburbs
- Take the Eisenhower Expressway, I-290 east.
- Continue through the city on Congress until you reach Buckingham Fountain.
- Turn right on Columbus.
- Columbus Drive becomes Lake Shore Drive (US-41).
- Continue south until the 18th street exit.
- Turn left on 18th street and continue as it bends left, becoming Museum Campus Drive. Entrance to the parking garage will be on your left on Museum Campus Drive.
From Wisconsin and the Northern Suburbs
- Take I-94 to the Kennedy expressway, I-90/94.
- Continue through the city.
- Take the Roosevelt Road exit and turn left at the second light, onto Roosevelt Road.
- Continue east on Roosevelt.
- The second light after crossing Michigan Avenue is Columbus Drive.
- Turn right on Columbus.
- Columbus Drive becomes Lake Shore Drive (US-41).
- Continue south until the 18th street exit.
- Turn left on 18th street and continue as it bends left, becoming Museum Campus Drive. Entrance to the parking garage will be on your left on Museum Campus Drive.
From O'Hare and the Northwest Suburbs
- Use I-90 east to the Kennedy expressway, I-90/94 east heading towards Chicago.
- Continue through the city.
- Take the Roosevelt Road exit and turn left at the second light on to Roosevelt Road.
- Continue east on Roosevelt.
- The second light after crossing Michigan Avenue is Columbus Drive.
- Turn right on Columbus.
- Columbus Drive becomes Lake Shore Drive (US-41).
- Continue south until the 18th street exit.
- Turn left on 18th street and continue as it bends left, becoming Museum Campus Drive. Entrance to the parking garage will be on your left on Museum Campus Drive.
From Indiana, Michigan and the South and Southeast Suburbs
- Take the Dan Ryan Expressway, I-90/94 north to the 103rd St. exit.
- Continue East on 103rd St to Stony Island Avenue.
- Turn left on Stony Island Avenue and continue north to Lake Shore Drive (US-41).
- Continue north on Lake Shore Drive to the 18th street exit.
- Turn right on 18th street and continue as it bends left, becoming Museum Campus Drive. Entrance to the parking garage will be on your left on Museum Campus Drive
From Southwest Suburbs
- Take I-55 to the exit for Lake Shore Drive North (US-41).
- Continue north on Lake Shore Drive to the 18th street exit.
- Turn right on 18th street and continue as it bends left, becoming Museum Campus Drive. Entrance to the parking garage will be on your left on Museum Campus Drive.
Traveling by Public Transportation:
From Downtown and Michigan Avenue | From the CTA Orange, Red or Green lines | From the South Side and Northwest Indiana | From Downtown Metra Terminals.
Field Museum is easily accessible by Public Transportation.

From Downtown and Michigan Avenue
- CTA bus #146, which stops along Michigan Avenue north of the river and on State Street south of the river will drop you off right across the street from the Museum.
- CTA bus #6, the Jeffery Express, also stops on State Street between Wacker and Congress. This bus stops at Roosevelt Road and Columbus Drive. Cross Columbus Drive and walk east through the Museum Campus to reach The Field Museum.
From the CTA Orange, Red or Green lines.
- Exit the trains at the Roosevelt stop.
- From there, you can take CTA bus #12 Roosevelt Road, which will drop you off right across the street from the Museum.
From the South Side and Northwest Indiana
- CTA bus #6, the Jeffery Express, serves the southside of Chicago and Hyde Park. This bus stops at Roosevelt Road and Columbus Drive.
- Walk east through the Museum Campus to reach The Field Museum.
Or
- Take the South Shore or the Metra Electric trains to the Roosevelt Road stop.
- Cross Columbus Drive and walk east to The Field Museum.
PLEASE NOTE: The east entrance/exit to the Metra Roosevelt Road station is closed until further notice. To access the Museum Campus:
- Walk west to Michigan Avenue.
- Turn south on Michigan Avenue to Roosevelt
- Turn east on Roosevelt to the Museum Campus underpass.
- Signage for access to the Museum Campus has also been posted.
From Downtown Metra Terminals
Union Station
- Take CTA bus #1 or #151 to State Street.
- Transfer to CTA bus #146 south.
- From mid-may through Labor Day, bus #130 runs directly from Union Station to the Museum on weekends.
LaSalle Street Station
- Pick up the #146 bus on State Street at Van Buren.
Free Trolley Service:
 The City of Chicago's free trolley system connects the Museum Campus with downtown visitor destinations and train stations. Trolleys run daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day, weekends only during the fall and winter, and additional daily service during the holidays. Service schedules vary by trolley route.
