Chocolate
Tantalize visitors with the natural and cultural history of one of the world's favorite treats: chocolate.
Through more than 200 objects and highly detailed replicas, immersive exhibitry, interactives, and media, this bilingual exhibition explores chocolate throughout history and around the world.
The exhibition begins in the rainforest, where a small tree produces fruits filled with cacao seedsthe source of chocolate. Visitors then trace chocolate’s history: from a ritual offering among the Maya people to an Aztec currency, from an exclusive beverage in 16th-century Europe to a mass-marketed product, from a model of sustainable farming practices to a source of endless fascination for people around the world.
Chocolate and its national tour were developed by The Field Museum, Chicago. This project was supported, in part, by the National Science Foundation.
"The 'Chocolate' show illustrates a cornucopia of ecological, technological, and cultural facts about the essential indulgence."
The New Yorker
"A highly appealing and worthwhile museum experience that will educate young and old visitors alike."
