The Field Ambassador program is a special professional development and partner program for teachers at The Field Museum. We have 333 Field Ambassadors who we have trained on all of the Museum's resources, including our exhibitions, collections, education programs, Harris Loan materials, and how to lead a focused field trip. These teachers are our liaison between the Museum and their school.
At this point in the sixth year of the program, the program has reached capacity, and we have ceased recruiting. We remain committed to the program, and have developed a new program structure. Moving forward, each year we will select new Field Ambassador schools to work with on a more intensive level, working with the principal, the Field Ambassador, and other enthusiastic teachers at that school to ensure that the full range of Field Museum resources, from family programs to student classes, is being utilized. We also want to ensure that we understand the needs of that particular school. The details of how this partnership will be realized will be included in each Field Ambassadors School Initiative.
While we will be selecting only a few Field Ambassador schools to work with intensively each year, we will continue to provide a high level of support and service to ALL of our Field Ambassadors, including discounts on teacher in-services, regular newsletters, first chances at special opportunities for their students. All Field Ambassadors will remain eligible to serve on our Advisory Council, and we plan to continue to sponsor two full-day forums and a Year-End Celebration to share the accomplishments of our Field Ambassadors with other interested educators.
